Three Qualities of a Great Senior Living Facility

When looking at senior living options, it is imperative to look closely at a few of them before making your final decision. As we all know, there are many options out there, however, the key is to choose the right community that would suit your loved one’s needs and lifestyle as closely as possible.

You will increase your chances of finding the ideal match if you take a proactive position and discuss issues that are most significant to you in advance. As an example of what makes a good senior living community, here are just three qualities to look for.

1- Excellent Rooming Options

When it comes to choosing a senior living community, there are a number of things you should ask before making your commitment. Is there a choice of living arrangements? Is it possible for someone to bring personal items with them? What are the hours and days when visitors are allowed to visit?

It is common for most communities to offer a variety of living arrangements and room sizes to choose from. Think about where your senior loved one will be happiest and if there is a particular floor plan that would make them feel most at home in the house.

In addition, it is very important that you ask what utilities are included with the monthly rent – for instance, cable, emergency call stations, internet access, etc. Having reliable internet is also a factor that you should take into consideration if your plans include Wi-Fi and the speed at which you can access it.

2 – A Diverse Range of Activities

For seniors who feel isolated at home, senior living communities are an excellent option. It is possible that some seniors are unable to drive because of health concerns, while others may be unable to drive because of disabilities. It is common for some senior living facilities to have off-campus activities where the residents can get together in a van with their friends and family without needing to drive themselves around town.

For those who make the transition from a retirement community to a senior living community, they will find a new level of fun, social interaction, and learning opportunities. It would be wise to ask about the activities available or even meet with the activities director when you tour the community.

3 – A Plan for Keeping Residents Safe

Make sure you ask the community what they do to ensure the safety of their residents. Ensure that the residents are equipped with emergency buttons that include the location so that staff can locate them quickly in an emergency. Check to see if residents have access to safe bathing facilities. You might want to ask how the community handles medical emergencies in case of an emergency. Ask if there is an adequate emergency plan in place. Ask about the staff and what background checks are performed on staff.

These are some of the top qualities to look for when looking for senior living options.  We have a long list of other qualities we can address in future blogs! In the meantime, no matter what services you are at Cleveland Health Care your safety and care are our top priority.
